Vattenfall, SSAB and LKAB to develop a pilot plant for sustainable steel production
(Europe): The three Swedish giants are working on the project Hybrit since 2016 to develop fossil free steel production method by 2035. The joint venture will soon start construction works on the experimental plant for Hybrit in Sweden.
Ukraine steel production increased by 4.5% in Q1 2019: Ukrmetalurgprom
(Europe): Ukraine steel production reached 5.5 million tonnes in the first three months of 2019. The production increased by 4.5% year-on-year in the first quarter, according to the country’s steel association Ukrmetalurgprom.
KIOCL plans to increase pellet production by 20% in 2020
(Asia Pacific): India’s state-owned Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. (KIOCL) is planning to increase its pellet production by 20% in 2020 through the modernisation and expansion at Mangaluru plant with the investment of $123 million. The company currently operates a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes/year.
China will continue the suspension of US auto tariffs
(Asia Pacific): China announced to continue suspensions of the additional 25% tariffs on automotive imports from the US from 1st April 2019 till further notice. The decision was aimed to reduce trade tensions and to support the negotiations between the two countries which is due in a week time.
