Steel production capacity in the US by plant and by equipment (BF, BOF, EAF, crude steel, flats, longs and coated steel)
Some developments
- CSN, a Brazilian steelmaker, sold its facility in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Steel Dynamics (SDI) for approximately $400 million. However, CSN said that it would be irresponsible to leave the US market given the currently improved margins. It now plans to set up a new subsidiary in the US to sell HDG, OCS and tinplate.
- Nucor Steel announced to ramp up its Gallatin plant production capacity from 1.6 million tonnes to 3 million tons annually.
- US Steel Corp. also announced to double its HR steel capacity to 3.3 million tonnes/year by investing $750 million.
