Ways to reduce plastic waste

by Commodity Inside / Friday, 28 August 2015 / Published in Packaging, Plastics

Plastic waste can be found everywhere nowadays.  A very small percentage of plastic waste can be recycled whilst most of it ends up in landfills, beaches and oceans. The side effects of plastic waste to our environment and human health are acute. Commodity Inside believes that full involvement and commitment from both government and public are equally important for reducing plastic waste. Numerous legislations have already been passed by almost every government to curb the usage of plastic and reduce the waste. However, the rise of plastic waste is still on the rise.

Commodity Inside has identified a number of simple ways to reduce the plastic wastes which are listed below:

  • Bring own carrier bags for shopping
  • Limit the use of straws
  • Prefer cardboard over plastic bottles and bags
  • Shop in bulk
  • Preference to buy large bottled water rather than smaller
  • Switch from the use of small plastic packed items to large
  • Use safety razor/refillable razor instead the disposable razor
  • Use cloth/washable diapers instead disposable diapers
  • Use glass containers
  • Use reusable bottles and cups
  • Reduce the use of juices
  • Prefer fresh food over frozen
