Huawei and CTR to complete Chilean undersea cable project by Q3 2019

Huawei and CTR (Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company) become partners for deploying submarine cable in the Fiber Optic Austral (FOA) project. This will connect the three southern regions in Chile known as Las Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes.

In March 2018, the Chilean government announced the investment by connecting these regions for which Huawei and CTR agreed. Huawei is provided with the responsibility of end-to-end submarine cable solution through which Chile will utilise its advanced 100G universal platform to provide the seamless deployment of optical network architecture between terrestrial network and submarine. CTR is responsible for the deployment and operation of the network. It is expected that the project will be completed by Q3 2019.

The cable is 2,800 kilometres long and has the capacity of carrying 16 Tb/s (Terabits per second) data. This project will help Huawei to strengthen its position further in South America through service capabilities and technology.
