FCC finalises its first 5G auction

(North America): The US Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has now completed its first bidding of the 5G spectrum which was opened last November. The bidding was started from the spectrum in the 28GHz band, and till the closing date, 2,965 28GHz licenses were distributed which raised more than $702 million. FCC won’t mention winning bidders till the closing date of its second bidding 24GHz band spectrum.

Canada announces to provide Nokia C$40 million for 5G research

(North America): The Canadian government has announced to provide C$40 million (US$30 million) to Nokia for research purposes on the 5G network. The deal has yet to be closed. The Canadian government is still assessing security concerns around the deployment of its 5G network. It has not announced its decision that whether the use of Huawei equipment would be allowed despite the arrest of the company CFO in Canada.
