Crude steel production in China increased by 9.2% in the first two months of 2019

(Asia Pacific): Crude steel production in China reached 149.58 million tonnes in the first two months of 2019. The production increased by 9.2% year-on-year, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

 

Court fines Japan’s Kobe Steel over data tempering

(Asia Pacific): Court in Japan charged Kobe Steel for providing 300 falsified products quality certificates to clients. The products didn’t meet the client’s specification. The court ordered Kobe to pay a penalty of ¥100 million.

 

China produces the world’s largest seamless tube

(Asia Pacific): A Chinese steel mill, Shandong Iraeta Heavy Industry Co Ltd., has forged the world’s largest seamless steel pipe weighted 150 tonnes and 15.6 meters in diameter for nuclear application. The tube can absorb pressure up to 70,000 tonnes.

 

Fiat Chrysler to recall 0.8 million vehicles unable to meet emission standards

(North America): Fiat Chrysler will recall 863,000 vehicles to change their catalytic converters that failed to meet the country’s emission standards, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. The vehicles include SUVs and sedans produced in 2011 and 2016.
