Du joins telecom operators joint consortium for blockchain
(Middle East): Du, a Dubai based telecommunication company, has joined Carrier Blockchain Study Group (CBSG) which is an international blockchain consortium of telecom operators. Members of the multinational body include Axiata Group, PLDT, Telin, Turkcell, Viettel and Zain. Commodity Inside understands that one of the aims of the consortium would be to work on Cross-Carrier Payment Systems (CCPS) using blockchain technology.
China launches 5G services in Qinghai-Tibet
(Asia Pacific): The 5G network service has recently been launched in Qinghai-Tibet region. The region is lagging behind in such infrastructure compared to other Chinese provinces. The Chinese government announced in April 2018 that it would develop new wireless technologies such as 5G in the region. The service is available in some key parts of the city with the speed of ~1.3 Gbps. The province also plans to start services such as virtual reality by using 5G infrastructure.
