UAE National Rail Network: Etihad Rail awards $408 million contracts for Stage Two railway network
(Middle East): UAE’s Etihad Rail awarded $408 contract of the second stage of the UAE National Rail Network. The package A of 2nd stage is awarded to a joint venture of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) and South Korea’s SK Engineering and Construction (SK E&C) for the construction of 139km double railway tracks. The project will require more than 33k tonnes of steel, including rails.
Once fully completed, the 1,200 km Etihad Rail project will help develop the UAE’s industries by transporting its products within the country as well as transporting it ports.
LISCO recommences steel exports due to surplus production
(Africa): Libya’s iron and steel company (LISCO) has resumed exports of steel after the clearance from the government due to the company’s surplus production. LISCO exported its first shipment of 10k tonnes of rebar to Egypt and Algeria last week.
Leeco Steel announces a new distribution facility in the US
(North America): Leeco Steel, LLC has announced to open its new steel supply centre in Georgia. It is a major distributor of carbon steel, HSLA and alloy steel in the US with eight distributions centres across the country. The new 49,000 square foot facility is expected to be operational in the middle of this year.
Brazil auto production rose in February
(Central and South America): Brazil’s auto production reached 257k units in February, increased by 29.9% month-on-month. Meanwhile, sales edged down by 0.6% according to the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA).
