Nokia to install smart meters in Saudi Arabia
(Middle East): Saudi telecom company Dawiyat signed an agreement with Finland Nokia to install 10 million smart meters in Saudi Arabia. The installation of smart meters in commercial and residential sectors across the Kingdom is part of Saudi’s National Transformation Plan 2020.
Avista begins the installation of smart meters in Washington
(North America): Avista starts installing of 400k smart electric meters and smart gas modules in Washington. Upon completion in 2020, it is expected that the installation of smart meters will reach around 90 million. Currently, more than 76 million smart meters are already installed to more than half of all households in the US.
Construction begins on a solar power plant in Texas
(North America): Enel Green Power has started construction works on 497MW solar power plant in Texas. It is known as the Roadrunner project which will be completed in two phases. The first phase of 252MW is expected to be completed by this year while the second phase of 245MW is planned to come online by 2020. Upon completion, the project will be able to provide around 1.2 TWh of electricity per year.
