Global Television Market Outlook Databook: Market Assessment and Outlook of Television Sales by 47 Countries
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
China is the world largest television market. Currently, most of the TV sets sold are internet-enabled in China. TVs are now used for both entertainment and connectivity hubs, rather than just for broadcasting purposes. Most users have access to broadband with other online service bundles which give them options for video-on-demand and online games.
In matured markets, flatscreen TV sets market growth has slowed down as they are no longer a major upgrade push driver. LED TV sets sales will continue to see increasing as producers are moving away from plasma production. We expect that there will be more demand for larger and thinner screens.
So far, 3D TV sets have not gained much success due to lack of enough availability of 3D content, which makes the premium prices for 3D TV unjustifiable. Smart TV sets are getting more popular but it is facing competition by cheap dongles, an external device which can turn a traditional existing TV set to a smart. On the other hand, UHD is currently performing due to better quality.
Unlike developed markets, in some developing countries, the market penetration is still low particularly for LCD/LED models. We expect that household TV set penetration will still enjoy the first-time buyer opportunity on top of the replacement market.
