Eurofer wants Steel Excess Capacity Forum to stay effective

(Europe): The European steel association Eurofer said that the Steel Excess Capacity Forum should continue the work even after its obligation ends in November. Eurofer is discussing the matter with the forum members to continue their work aimed to address global overcapacity problems.

 

The US crude steel production rose by 4.6% in February – WSA

(North America): The US crude steel production reached 6.9 million tonnes in February 2019, and increased by 4.6% year-on-year, according to the World Steel Association.

Nucor to build a $1.35 billion steel plate mill in Kentucky US

(North America): Nucor Corp. announced $1.35 billion steel investment in Kentucky, US. The new $1.35 billion plate mill will be built on 139,000-square-meter with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes. The plant is expected to be operational by 2022.

 

Steel Dynamics buys stacks in United Steel Supply

(North America): Steel Dynamics has acquired 75% shares in United Steel Supply for  $134 million. United Steel Supply is a major distributor of painted Galvalume steel coil in the US. Steel Dynamics may buy the remaining stacks in the future.
