Some developments
- In March 2018, Indian steelmaker JSW officially signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire Aferpi from Cevital, but the sale did not immediately proceed then, as the two parties did not agree on a sale price. In May 2018, the acquisition has finally taken place and JSW gained a foothold in the Italian and wider European markets. The company had in the past attempted to acquire Ilva but lost the bid to ArcelorMittal.
- In 2018, Tata Steel signed an agreement with ThyssenKrupp to merge their business in Europe. The new group would be named as ThyssenKrupp Tata Steel B.V. The joint venture is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
