Indian steel lobby urges the government to end dumping of Iranian steel

(Asia Pacific): Indian Steel Association wrote a letter to the Indian government urging to stop dumping of cheap Iranian steel products via UAE route. The association mentioned that steel imports from the UAE are growing at alarming rates. These are Iranian materials redirected from the UAE ports.

The US steel capacity utilisation rate remained 82.9% in the second week of March

(North America): The US produced 1.9 million tonnes of crude steel which increased by 5.6% year-on-year in the week ended on 16 March, according to American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). The steel industry capacity utilisation rate was 82.9% in the week.

Kazakhstan crude steel production fell in the first two months of 2019

(Asia Pacific): Kazakhstan’s crude steel production drops in the first two months of 2019, according to the National Statistics Committee. During the two months, the country sole producer ArcelorMittal produced 462,137 tonnes of crude steel which decreased by 37.2% year-on-year.

IG Metall ends the strikes with the German steel industry

(Europe): Germany’s steel labour union IG Metall ended months-long strike following successful negotiations for the increase in labour wages. The agreement between the parties will remain effective until February 2021.
